Largo Gaetana Agnesi , Largo Gaetana Agnesi, 00184 Roma RM, Italy

Meet your guide at Largo Gaetana Agnesi, above the 2nd floor of the metro line B (blue line) stop "Colosseo". Your guide coordinator will be waiting here wearing a blue City Wonders polo shirt or jacket for easy recognition.

Palatine Hill , Palatine Hill, 00186 Rome, Metropolitan City of Rome, Italy
Your Ancient Rome tour starts near Oppian Hill, one of the Seven Hills of Rome, for a view of the Colosseum. Then walk down to the arena with your guide, and skip the main entrance line with your fast-track ticket. Inside, explore the Colosseum’s first and second tiers while listening to stories from your guide about the brutal events that were once held here, like executions and gory gladiator battles. As you stroll around the perimeter of the amphitheater, try to image the ancient crowd of up to 50,000 spectators who cheered as gladiators’ fates were decided by power-hungry emperors.

Next, exit the Colosseum and walk over to the Roman Forum, once the political heart of the city. Get an up-close view of ancient remains like the House of the Vestal Virgins and the Temple of Julius Caesar, and then walk up Palatine Hill for another perspective of the ruins, including Circus Maximus, where chariot races once took place. Your tour ends here, from where you can continue exploring on your own.

Optional upgrade to the Ancient Rome and Colosseum Tour: Underground Chambers, Arena and Upper Tier (3.5 hours)

For a more thorough exploration of the Colosseum, select the upgrade option when booking for a tour that includes access to the third tier, the arena floor and the underground chambers—sections of the Colosseum that are either newly opened or typically closed to the general public. You’ll see more than most visitors do.

Walk around the reconstructed floor of the arena, where the gladiators once dueled in bloody battles, and look down through the gaps into the underground chambers. Then make your way below ground to explore the chambers themselves, checking out pits where wild animals like tigers and lions were held, before heading up to the third tier for a panoramic view into the Colosseum and out to Palatine Hill. Your tour ends with a visit to the Roman Forum, as described in the standard tour.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Colosseum
Your journey into antiquity begins with the Colosseum, one of the world’s most iconic sights. Your guide will call on their historical and archaeological expertise to tell you all about the battles, both physical and political, that played out in this incredible amphitheater. You might be surprised to learn that ‘Gladiator’ didn’t get everything right and that feats of ancient engineering even allowed the Romans to re-enact naval battles here.

The next stop takes you back to the very beginning. The Palatine Hill is the spot Romulus chose to found the city that would become Rome in 753 BC – a decision that ended in tragedy for his brother Remus. Amazing tour of the Coliseum

Donatello was a wonderful tour guide. She kept us in the shade and was very knowledgeable. I loved the sunflower on the top of her flag so we could easily find her.

This tour was more about the architecture which was interesting. But I enjoyed more Learning how the Romans enjoyed themselves in the coliseum and lived.

Great Experience

Our tour and guide was great. We learned a lot and it was nice to be able to cut all the lines. Wear very comfortable shoes as there is a lot of walking. Everything was very organized. We went on a Friday in the summer and it was very crowded. This tour does not go underground into the colosseum but we were able to look down into it from the first floor.

Zoya (sp?), Our guide was fantastic! Her pace was perfect for the heat and size of the group. She kept us moving without sacrificing the storytelling. As teachers, we appreciated her attention to historic detail while keeping it entertaining.

The coliseum was the best. I couldn't walk the Roman forum due to many stairs and inclines (I have mobility diffuculty). The tour guide found a place for me to sit and wait while they did the forum. The tour guide came back for me to do palatine Hill. She constantly checked on me

Sabrina was an excellent guide - really interesting and thoughtful too. We skipped all the queues and was well worth going. My 16 year old loved it too and is studying classics so perfect for her. Thank you!

Colosseum is great, the guide not so much

The Colosseum is great to visit but our guide for the tour was overly talkative and would provide very little information about the actual Colosseum. It was very frustrating at times. It was a very hot day and he kept us for 30mns in full sun talking about unrelated facts.

Fabio was so knowledgable and a great tour guide. He gave us so much insight and answered all our questions to the best of his knowledge, even telling us what was still unconfirmed and/or confirmed by historians. He took us to the best viewpoints for the tour. He was also excellent at remembering our names.

I enjoyed it.

Skipping the line. However, my hearing isn't so good, and our very kind and generous guide's English wasn't so good. So, while I was very interested in his many talks (and jokes) I only understood about 20% of what he said. I have studied these places and even published a book about some of them, so I was very glad to get in and take pictures, and I so wanted to understand the talks. But didn't. If it wasn't for the English (and my hear) you would rate 5 stars. You're company is well organized and I applaud you for the entrepreneur effort

The guide barely spoke English. Additionally did not explain the key details of the Colosseum, Roman forum, palatine hill. We could not understand anything that she was saying.
